HISTORY
Starting in 1990, Madison experienced an economic boom that led to rapid expansion on the west and south sides. Thanks to this growth, young professionals and families put down roots and cultivated warm, welcoming communities. UW-Madison grads and faculty continue to settle in areas near the university like the Vilas neighborhood, where youthful energy and good taste are found in equal measure.
SCHOOLS
Madison Metropolitan School District ranks well with a B+ rating on Niche. The district’s student-to-teacher ratio is 12:1 and it has A marks in teachers, diversity, and college prep. West High School, in particular, has a high rating amongst high schools in the district.
REAL ESTATE
With big draws like UW-Madison’s excellent academics and the Wisconsin Badgers’ athletics, Madison is a very competitive market. The good news is that the outskirts to the west and east of downtown are more affordable. A nice three-bedroom, two-bath home on the west side will cost you about $350K.
