HISTORY

Located on one of the highest elevations in Dane County, DeForest was known to trappers, traders, and settlers as Winnebago Prairie. This rolling prairie, which stretched from the Cherokee Marsh to the present site of Arlington, was the principal hunting ground of Ho-Chunk Native Americans.

The DeForest Area School District has six schools and serves just under 4,000 students. Niche, a popular school rating site, gives the district a B rating, with high marks in academics, teachers, and college prep.
