HISTORY
Evansville was originally called “The Grove,” referring to the area’s beautiful trees. The full name comes from Dr. J.M. Evans, the city’s first physician. The city has a history of being a center for agriculture and was a stopping point on both the stagecoach and rail routes between Illinois and Madison.
