HISTORY
The city’s name was given by Englishman George Wright, who was the area’s postmaster. The “Mount” part of the name refers to the land’s high elevation. The area’s large community of Norwegian immigrants has shaped the culture of the area since the 1830s. An example of this is Mount Horeb’s most popular unique attraction, its “Trollway,” a group of life-size trolls decorating Main Street and scattered throughout the town.

The city’s school district includes a 4K, early learning center, primary center, and an intermediate, middle, and high school. Mount Horeb’s school district is highly rated, receiving an A- rating from Niche.com. The district gets perfect marks in academics, teachers, and college prep.
